ANAPHYLAXIS POLICY • Riverside Park Nursery School makes every effort to minimize potential allergens from its environment. • We realize that some children can have severe reactions to allergies. This policy will help ensure that cooperation between the nursery school and parents will provide a safe environment for children.

  38. Behaviour Management • Punitive measures are not used here at RPNS • Gentler approach by talking to the children and redirecting to another activity if necessary

  39. SUPERVISION OF VOLUNTEERS AND STUDENTS The intent of this policy is to: • Help support the safety and well-being of children in our licensed agency • Provide direction to our agency regarding the supervision of volunteers and placement students in child care settings • Implement the policy for the supervision of volunteers and students in child care settings Children are always supervised by RECEs.

  40. Withdrawal Policy • Parents wishing to withdraw their children from the school must notify the school registrar in writing one month in advance. If they do not do so, they must pay the following month's fee (e.g. notification of withdrawal after October 1st would still result in the payment of fees for November). • The program fee (paid Sept. 1) is non-refundable if a child is withdrawn after the commencement of the school year. There will be no refunds after March 1st of the current school year if a child withdraws.

  41. Withdrawal/Discharge Policy Riverside Park Nursery School reserves the right to direct parents to withdraw their child from the school for reasons that include the following: • A child continues to require a disproportionate amount of the teacher's time and attention; • Behaviour is found to be continually disruptive to the group as a whole; • The School is unable to meet the needs of the child; and/or failure to provide proper duty day support (as defined in Duty Day Policy). • Non payment of fees

  42. Withdrawal/Discharge Policy Prior to directing a parent to withdraw their child the following steps will have been taken. • Written observations of the child completed by the staff. • Any concerns documented. • Staff meeting with parents. • Referral to appropriate resources. • Support and discussions to help fulfill Duty Day requirements. The parent(s)/guardian(s) of the child in question may bring the matter before the Interim Board of Directors if the issue is not resolved to their satisfaction. The decision of the Board will be final.

  43. RPNS Conflict Resolution Policy • The Riverside Park Nursery School is dedicated to promoting an atmosphere of open communication and respect. Should an issue arise, feedback and suggestions that benefit the school as a whole, delivered in a positive manner, are always taken into consideration by staff and the Interim Board of Directors. • Should you have any concerns or a formal complaint, our policy outlines the following steps:

  44. Step 1 – Communicating with your child's Teacher • Parents/caregivers are encouraged to discuss the matter with your child’s particular teacher. Most straightforward problems can be resolved at this point. • Your child's teacher has the most knowledge and insight regarding the situation and is experienced in behaviour management.

  45. Step 2 – Letter to the Director • At this stage, the parent must notify the school Director in writing (paper copy, not email) within 1 week of the incident. • The Director is responsible for investigating the complaint(s) before providing a formal response in writing back to the parent/caregiver within 1 week of receipt of the parent/caregiver’s letter.

  46. Step 3 – Letter to the Parent Board • The Director will advise the parent/caregiver to send their concerns in writing to the President of the Interim Board. • The Board will discuss the issue at the following monthly meeting, or earlier should the issue require immediate attention. • The Interim Board is responsible for investigating the complaint before providing a formal response in writing back to the parent/caregiver and the school in a timely manner.

  47. Stage 4 – The Ministry of Education • The parent/caregiver is responsible for notifying the Ministry of Education, who will be responsible for investigating the complaint before providing a formal response in writing back to the parent/caregiver and the school. • http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/
