Commandant’s Priorities--Spring Term-- • Command climate • The barracks environment supports success & leader development for every cadet • Training • “I expect 100% participation in all training events” • Transition • “I expect the Class of 2014 to lead and command the Corps until properly relieved during the Long Gray Line on May 9th” • “I expect the 2C, 3C, and 4C to prepare for the positions of leadership they will assume next fall …” • President’s Inspection • “…Make this the best inspection that Gen Rosa has seen during his time as President of The Citadel”

SMI Basics 1 Blue Book, paragraph 5.1.2 SMI = Saturday Morning Inspection PURPOSE1: • To enable cadet officers and senior officers to determine conditions within the Corps • To set the standards the Corps is required to maintain METHOD: • Led by Cadet Chain of Command, unless otherwise designated by Commandant • Focused on 100% of Corps – 4 classes, not 4th class

  6. Your Role Coordinate with Company TAC ROLE & RESPONSIBILITY: • Affirm importance, convey professionalism • Train the eye & approach of the inspector • Expressly tasked to support (MECEP/STA 21s) METHOD: • Typically, linked with cadet leader

Gouge - Details • Positive first impressions • Squad leaders knowing their squad • Rifle manual, “Inspection Arms” • Fresh haircuts (Wed, Thur, Fri prior) • Shoes with no worn heels (pencil rule) & clean edge or “rim” • Proper fitting trousers (slight break in front, 3/4” above heel) • Proper collars and cuffs (1/2” overlap; 1/4” exposed below sleeve) • Computer screens displaying Chapter 9, Room Standards • Awesome racks • “Sameness” between roommates (half press especially) • Neatly organized plastic bins • Clutter-free desks, cork boards (no “Post its”) Things I’m In Love With As an Inspector
