  1. Specific Heat Capacity Thermal Energy Transfer

  2. Heat Capacity Explain the following diagram.

  3. Specific Heat Capacity • Specific heat capacity is measured in joules per kilogram per kelvin(J/(kg K)).

  4. Measuring Specific Heat Capacity A calorimeter is a device used to measure the transfer of thermal energy.

  5. Measuring Specific Heat Capacity Start with a calorimeter containing a known amount of cold liquid. Heat the metal block of known mass to a known temperature and transfer it to the calorimeter. Measure how much the temperature of the liquid rises. From this, calculate how much thermal energy was gained by the liquid and lost by the metal. Calculate the specific heat capacity of the metal.

  7. Specific Heat Capacity

  8. Principle of Heat Exchange A 64.9-g metal block is heated to 99.9°C in boiling water. It is carefully transferred to a calorimeter containing 131 g of isopropyl alcohol (specific heat capacity 2370 J/(kgK)) at 11.0°C. The final temperature is 25.0°C. Find the specific heat capacity of the metal.
