This paper outlines a novel file system service specifically designed for cloud computing environments, focusing on improving availability and maintainability. It discusses the challenges of utilizing physical machines in compute clouds, such as high costs and low performance of current solutions. By employing the Gfarm file system and utilizing a stable HostOS as a base for managing virtual machines (VMs), we aim to enhance local file access performance and enable effective migration, replication, and remote access, thus addressing the limitations of conventional cloud storage solutions.
