  2. How are Psychological Disorders classified? • The most common method used to classify psychological disorders ids the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) • The most current form of DSM is the DSM-IV witch allows diagnosis over multiple axis.

  3. Anxiety Disorders • Anxiety disorders are emotional states that occur due to multiple negative factors such as fear, nervousness, or worrying and is often accompanied by subjective behavioral and physical features. • Anxiety Disorders are believed to be cued or developed by previous events.

  4. Somatoform Disorders • Somatoform disorders occur through physical problems such as numbness, pain or paralysis that are believed to take place as a form of psychological defense. • Somatoform disorders are believed

  5. Mood Disorders • Mood disorders are characterized by sever and occasional disturbances or changes in mood. • Mood disorders are often the product of the combination of psychological and biological factors combined with the stress of everyday life.

Schizophrenia • Schizophrenia is a lifelong disorder which is characterized by a break with reality often in the form of hallucinations or delusions. • Schizophrenia is believed to be a bran disorder formed from the combination of negative factors that include abnormal development of the bran and stressful life experiences.

  7. Personality Disorders • Personality disorders are characterized by inflexible and maladaptive patterns of behavior. • Personality disorders are believed to be the derivate of oedipal problems.
