  1. Demetrius Ly Coding The informational booklet that tells you all you need to know about coding Only $4.99 in the states!

  2. Coding Origins • The 1940’s introduced electricity-powered computers. These computers had limited memory space, and limited speed. They were gigantic. • Early programming languages were made out of punch-cards.

  3. What coding does • Coding helps design websites, games, and applications on the computer. • Coding supports people completing tasks on the computer. • Coding is sent to a computer which deciphers it into a action.

  4. Modern-day Coding • Today’s examples of coding are complex, and even the simplest of codes could turn into a mix of Mumbo-Jumbo. • We use Command Prompts to check for system updates, viruses, and much more. • An example of a code is: alert(“message”), bind <key> “message”, and bind <key> (command).

  5. How Coding works • Coding is the computer’s language, like Spanish. • Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 are examples of Operating systems – Disks that contain codes that make what your computer is today. • The computer takes the code, such as “how much wood can a woodchuck chuck wood if a wood chuck could chuck wood?” .length, and the .length in that phrase would decode to showing how many letters there would be used in that phrase.

  6. Coding Software • You can do coding at home! It’s that simple! • Due to today’s technology, we have the capability to code in our own garage. • Examples of Popular Coding programs are Javascript, Aptana studio, etc.

  7. How Coding Helps us • As previously stated, Coding helps create websites and programs. • Many popular examples of websites/programs are: Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

  8. Schools of Software Engineering • In jobs where software engineering is required, these schools help you out. • An example of a school that offers Software engineering courses is UCI. • These courses require you to have critical thinking and mathematic skills, not to mention typing skills as well. • Here is a student explaining the difference between Software engineering and Computer engineering. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1CryIp0kx8&edufilter=d7ynpfA3jPD2Yj-LVydV6Q

  9. Summary • Coding is a language that the computer uses. • The computer decodes the code and acts upon the code. • Coding helps us find jobs and make websites. • Coding is a programmer’s best friend – usually. • Some schools offer courses in software engineering. • You can program in your very own house.
