  1. Mandalas Mandala means circle in Sanskrit. A mandala’s circular nature symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and that all parts of life are one.

  4. Most mandalas are circular but can be within a square. What might the shapes or images stand for in this mandala?

  5. Often, mandalas radiate from the center like a flower.

  6. As a meditation tool, the mandala focuses energy and prayer.

  7. The Labyrinth is actually a mandala that is used even by Christians as a meditation and prayer tool.

  8. Your Task • Create a symbol for each of the five parts of Hinduism belief • Design a mandala using all five symbols in a symmetrical way • Fill the entire circle – You may also use a square around it • Use bright colors to color the mandala making sure each symbol is the same color in each place it is used • Write a short 5 – 7 (minimum) sentence explanation of your mandala explaining your symbols and the design and why you chose it
