  1. The Future of Web Content Management at Bucknell

  2. Why are we “getting rid” of EasyWeb? • FileNet stopped developing the product 3 years ago • Support for product ends December 31, 2005 • FileNet’s new CMS is not a good fit for Bucknell

  3. The new products look great! • They support “drag & drop” • The workflow notifications are customizable and relevant • The user interfaces have improved • In fairness to EasyWeb, had FileNet continued to develop their product, it would probably be greatly improved

  4. How are we selecting a new CMS? • Extensive research of the CMS industry • Developed criteria for new CMS based on current experience • Conducted online demos of product that made first cut • Sent out RFPs to six companies • Will be holding on campus demos with finalists

  5. CMSWatch.com Contacted other universities Websites of vendors Technology trade journals There are hundreds of products out there Finding the right fit is crucial No product will be perfect Researching for a CMS

  6. Criteria for selecting a new CMS • Because this is our second CMS search, we’re in a unique situation: we know what we are getting into this time around. • We know what questions to ask, and we know how to understand the answers.

  7. Online Demos • We’ve watched demos of over a dozen products • We’ve seen a wide range of products, from simple graphical interfaces, to complex folder structures • The good news: even the worst product we’ve seen is better than what we have now

  8. CMS features to look forward to: • Inline image editing

  9. CMS Features • Graphical interface that gives you the freedom to reuse content and fine-tune page layouts

  10. CMS Features • Contribute content through Microsoft Word

  11. CMS Features • Improved “tasks/in box”

  12. CMS Features • Preview content inline

  13. Request for Proposal (RFP) • Revised our RFP from the first CMS search • Asked over 70 questions • A team of 11 people reviewed the RFP responses • Narrow the list to the top 3 contenders for on-campus demos

  14. When will all of this happen? • Currently evaluating products • Plan to have public demos of “finalists” after Thanksgiving break (week of Nov. 28th) • Intend to select new product by end of year • Plan to begin using it by summer of 2006

  15. What Will This Mean for Departments? • Will EasyWeb users have to learn a new CMS? • Yes • Will any current work be lost? • No!! • Will departments have to migrate their sites? • No!! (Web Development team will do that for you)

  16. What else does this mean for you? • Will the new system really be easier? • Yes! From everything we’ve seen in the demos, they appear to be dramatically easier • Will there be less screens to click on? • Yes!! • Will it be faster? • Yes, from the demos we’ve seen so far
