  3. Escalation August 1964- North Vietnamese patrol boats attack American Destroyers Gulf of Tonkin Resolution- Gave President Johnson the power to use American troops without declaration of war to “take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States

  4. March 1965- US troops start landing in Da Nang, South Vietnam March 1965- Operation Rolling Thunder -US Bombs Ho Chi Minh Trail and factories in N. Vietnam
