  1. Christina Oct 10 · 4 min read UI vs UX Designs: What makes UI and UX di?erent? Excerpt: What’s the di?erence between UI and UX designs? This article explains how User Interface is more related to the look, feel and interactivity of a device, while User Experience is more related to the ease of using a product.

  2. User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) — Two di?erent concepts and yet both are necessary for websites and apps to perform. But what makes UI and UX di?erent or rather, what are the di?erences between UI and UX? After all, does one really need professional UI and UX services for their business? Let’s use the simple example of coconut oil to explain the same. In India, a lot of people use coconut oil for cosmetic purposes. One particular company designed very convenient to use plastic bottles in various sizes for selling the oil. This proved e?ective as there were no wastage or dripping. Though convenient, there was one signi?cant challenge. Coconut oil solidi?es in cold temperatures. During the cold- months consumers had to keep the bottles out in the open for hours till the oil came to normal liquid form and could be used. The result — a gradual shift to other cosmetic oils. This is where we can see the di?erence between UI and UX. While the look and feel of the bottle was good (interface), it failed to be easy-to- use (experience). To ?nd a solution, the brains got together, and the company came up with a special package during winters. It was a small cylindrical jar with a wide base and mouth. This served the purpose well. Consumers would no longer have to place it in the sunlight, but simply open the jar and scoop out the required amount of oil. This analogy is a simple, yet e?ective way to understand how UI is di?erent from UX.

  3. What is UI? From websites and display screens, to apps and wearable devices, any design elements with which the user interacts can be considered as User Interface. To put it simply, UI or user interface design is the look and feel of the device/product in question. Types of UI? There are di?erent types of UIs but for computers, the most popular ones are: Graphical user interface (GUI) Administrative web interface Web user interface (WUI) Touch screens What is UX? User Experience on the other hand relates to the ease of using a device/product. It has several dimensions including interactive design, visual design, usability, information architecture etc. UX design creates ease in interactivity leading to customer loyalty and satisfaction. What is the di?erence between UI and UX?

  4. UI and UX are closely related. Though their goal is to improve user comfort, there are some di?erences between the two: UI is a component of UX and often user experience has little to do with UI UI is a tool responsible for the look of a website; UX on the other hand deals with the end-to-end experience of using the product/device UI takes into consideration the interface, layout, ?ow, display and any other tactical element; UX design is more holistic and accounts for usability, information architecture, content, visual design etc. UX as such is creative and analytical in understanding what the website or app will do for its users/people. UI design is for the websites, screens, computer, machines, appliances etc. whereas UX is all about how the users interacts with these devices across categories such as navigation, ease of use, scrolling etc. If UI is the output, UX is the input UI is more about what users ‘see’ in a website; UX is about how they ‘feel’ about it And since we are talking digital, let’s understand this through the example of a simple website. There are some websites that look great but are di?cult to use. As a visitor you may ?nd it di?cult to navigate to other pages, the menu bar

  5. might not be detailed, contact us details might be missing etc. All of this is an example of good UI but poor UX. The reverse is also true. A website that does not look great but it very easy to use and navigate is good UX and bad UI. Ideally both UI and UX should be exemplary for the results to be great. Not surprisingly, many businesses now seek assistance of web design and development companies to ensure that there is no compromise between UI and UX. Luckily, UI and UX designers have understood how important it is for UI and UX to work together. So, in future, it is probably safe to assume that there is going to be enough harmony between UI and UX. Contact: www.metricfox.com Email: info@metricfox.com
