  1. RIPE NCC Status RIPE NCC Staff presented by Mirjam Kühne

  2. Outline • Statistics • Services

  3. RIPE DNS Hostcount

  4. 1,5 New Members/Day

  5. Closed LIRs • phase1: • phase2: • phase3: • phase4: • LIRs closed for various reasons:

  6. DB Queries Reach 5/sec 13,091,219 (~5 /sec) (~2 /sec)

  7. 10 DB Updates/min 429,884

  8. DB Objects Exceed 2,5 Million 2,602,809

  9. New hostmaster Requests 1,452

  10. Address Space Usage

  11. AS Numbers

  12. Services

  13. Activity Plan 2000 (ripe-197) • Membership Services • Registration Services • Test Traffic Measurement • Coordination Services • New Projects • RIS • RR Consistency

  14. Registration Services • Avg. response time 2-3 days • Start processing IPv6 requests • New manager: Nurani Nimpuno • Efficient Procedures • No radical staff increase

  15. IPv6 • 20 queries received in total • 10 address space requests • 5 sub-TLAs allocated • 3 ranges reverse delegated • Good co-operation with RIRs and 6bone • Smooth Start • Few open issues (IPv6-WG)

  16. LIR Training Courses • 13 courses delivered since last meeting • 14 courses planned • SE, DE, TR, IT, FR, RU, UK, GR, NL, SK, IE • New course material ready soon http://www.ripe.net/lir/courses/nextcourses.html

  17. RIPE Database • Redundancy improved • Fully redundant server configuration • 2nd server: “near real time” mirroring - “hot swap” • Several performance problems • Software reached limit for some types of updates • Sub-optimal use of hardware by the software • Hardware tuned to the maximum • DB software tweaked • New performance features added

  18. RIPE Database (2) • Database Consistency Project • good results (http://www.ripe.net/db/state/) • Secondary Sites • rpsl, test, beta • Re-implementation slightly delayed • PGP Deployment • 80 maintainer objects using PGP

  19. Test-Traffic Measurements • Membership service in 2000 • 43 sites participating, 36 taking data • Data analysis in progress • New services being developed: • Delay alarms: small scale tests • Trends in the data: analysis in progress • Results overview page: work starts after RIPE-34

  20. Where are the test-boxes located?

  21. Routing Information Service • RIS collects and stores Routing information • Usage possibilities • Debugging/Problem solving • Statistics • Compare announced against actual policies • Prototype setup, used for design studies • Design document discussed in Routing-WG • Published early October (ripe-200)

  22. RR Consistency • Consistency between RR & ‘Reality’ • Use RIS data collection • Concentrate on route/origin authentication • RIPE community co-operation • DB-WG, Routing-WG

  23. RIR coordination • Excellent cooperation - IPv6 • ICANN & ASO • DB consistency • We welcome APNIC staff

  24. Annual General Meeting • RIPE NCC AGM: 19.10.1999 • Members register now • Agenda • AP2000 • Budget • EB elections
