Presenting the Counter-Argument Write the counter thoroughly, objectively, and fairly. Dedicate 2-4 sentences to the counter-argument before you rebut it. Do not used biased language.

Rebutting the Counter-Argument After you have presented the other side fairly, you will rebut it. Give examples and details that disprove the counter-argument.
Where Does it Go? The counter-argument should be the last paragraph of your essay.
Example Original argument: All students should go to college right after high school. Counterargument: Some students benefit from taking a break. Rebuttal: If students take a break, they may never go back. What it looks like in your essay: Some people may think that taking a break will give students time to decide what they want to do. This view acknowledges the high cost of tuition. According to some, families cannot waste money on expensive colleges while the student tries to figure out what he or she wants to do.
