  4. Already published • Too many new results to cover the published ones here • see web pageand/or backup slides Microscopic black holes Dijet resonance & ratio Stopped gluinos Quark compositeness will be in Francesco Pandolfi’s talk Leaving us with 15 new searches… … in 14 minutes. Hold on to your hats. Amnon Harel

Gravity in bulk Our brane Extra dimensions in searches “Brane worlds” Hierarchy problem: MPl~1019 GeV, MEW~102 GeV ADD model RS models • n extra, compact dimensions • Compactified in an n-dimensional torus • Warped, compact extra dimension Bottom line for this talk Finely spaced (<100MeV) Kaluza-Klein modes  Appears as a continuous enhancement  An ultraviolet cutoff scale Ms Well separated (e.g. 1TeV) Kaluza-Klein modes  new resonances Amnon Harel

  6. Z’/GKK Signal region Signal region arXiv:1103.0981 (hep-ex) Di-lepton resonance • Experimental signature • Two isolated electrons, or • Two isolated, opposite sign, muons • Extrapolation syst.: • NNLO k-factor • PDFs Checked ineμ data After vetoes, <0.1 cosmic ray event Amnon Harel

  7. Z’/GKK arXiv:1103.0981 (hep-ex) Di-lepton resonance limits • Details of statistical inference have little effect • since > 465GeV, no events & little background expected • More limits in the paper: • Rσ limits separated by channel • Mass limits as function of (cd,cu) * * Sequential SM After LEE, Z=1.1 GUT * * More restrictive or comparable to previous limits Amnon Harel

  8. GKK controlregion EXO-10-019 Di-photon resonance • RS-1 model • Branching fraction ~4% (vs. 2% for ee or μμ) • A CMS calorimetry design goal (Hγ γ) •  photons are strong experimental handles excluded excluded unmotivated Amnon Harel

  9. GKK Signal region controlregion EXO-10-026 ADD in di-photon • ADD model • Translated into limits on: • strength of ED effects (ηG) • in the nED=2 case on the UV cutoff (Ms) Amnon Harel

  10. EXO-10-020 ADD in di-muon • ADD model • Translated into limits on: • phenomenological parameter ΛT(GRW convention) • n and Ms(see note / webpage) GKK Signal region An example of signal No signal with Mμμ Mmax Amnon Harel

  11. Signal region EXO-11-003 Jet + invisible search GKK • ADD model • MET & central-jet final state • vetoes on leptons, dijets, cosmic ray events, beam halo events, etc. From Wμν and Zμμ control data An example of signal n=2 n=4 Amnon Harel

  12. W’ Signal region Signal region arXiv:1012.4945 (hep-ex) W’ search arXiv:1103.0030 (hep-ex) • Reference model • W’ has W-like fermionic couplings • W’ does not couple to other gauge bosons • Tevatron limits: mW’ > 1.1TeV MW’>1.56TeV Amnon Harel

  13. EXO-10-018 b’ search Pair production of heavy, 4th generation b’. Each b’tW (bWW) Distinctive events. Selected based on leptons, NJets, and Similar to new Tevatron limit: mb’ > 385GeV Amnon Harel

  14. From data, procedures checked with simulation Signal region Signal region Drell-Yan + ISR/FSR: MC w. NLO x-section Signal region Signal region EXO-10-016 Excited lepton search • Experimental signature • Two isolated electrons/muons of opposite charge • Isolated photon (ΔR(γ,l)>0.5) CI No events observed in signal regions Scale of lepton compositeness Amnon Harel

  15. Signal region EXO-10-025 High pT Z boson production • Reference model:weakly decaying excited quark • q*qZqμ+μ- • Λ=mq*and f=f’=1 • Decay may be rare, but clean • <5% background(top pairs & di-bosons) Gauge interaction Contact interaction >1.17TeV for fS=0 Exceed HERA limit >252GeV Amnon Harel

  16. LQ LQ LQ LQ Leptoquark searches LQlq/νq, within the given SM generation. β = BR(LQlq). Let’s start with 1st generation: eejjchannel BR: β2 eνjjchannel BR: β(1-β) ST=scalar sum of jet and lepton pTs Amnon Harel

  17. Leptoquark limits 1st generation 2nd generation eejj - arXiv:1012.4031 Accepted by PRL eνjj – EXO-10-006 Very similar to the 1st generation channels μμjj - arXiv:1012.4033 Accepted by PRL Exceed Tevatron limits (except at very low β) Amnon Harel

  18. Long lived slow particles PDG ? arXiv:1101.1645 (hep-ex) • Heavy long-lived particles exist in many BSM models • Heavy  slow (β<0.9) • Searching for charged R-hadrons Muon channel (the usual choice) Large dE/dx From silicon strips Also a tracker-only channel to cover charge suppression scenarios No data events pass tight selection in either channel With loose selection Mgluino>311-398 GeV Amnon Harel

  19. μ-jets EXO-11-013 Search for groups of collimated muons from new low mass resonances • Studied 3 SUSY with “hidden valley” scenarios • Models motivated by PAMELA’s positron excess • μ-s clustered into nearby, pairs of opposite charge • channels [μμ], [μμ] [μμ] (same mass), [μμμμ], [≥5μ] • For model dependent limits see note/webpage Amnon Harel

  20. Conclusion The standard model describes CMS data well Summary • Informed you of 15 new “Exotica” searches, in 7TeV pp collision data collected by CMS in 2010 at the LHC: • All to prevent the above conclusion • “New” = ~last two months • Many set the most stringent limits to date • Promising start – expect much more data in 2011… • For a closer look at these, at the 2 analyses presented in other talks (F. Pandolfi’s, J. Gruschke’s), and at the 4 published results, see: • https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMSPublic/PhysicsResultsEXO Amnon Harel
