Detailed implementation depends upon a number of factors including the capabilities of suppliers and the final 21CN network design.

  2. In-span Fibre join 21CN Core C M S A N MSIL Could be located at Metro Node Fibre MSAN IP Border Gateway Customer sited NTE Metro Node Ethernet VLANs MSIL System terminated on Customer Site MSIL - ISH PSTN Conveyance End User Line • MSIL goes no further than NTE/Facility Mux on BT Site • Rental Price based on technology, line system speed (+distance for CSH) • One off connection charge • Configuration charges for setting up/configuring VLANs • SDH Facility Mux charges included in MSIL • Service-specific VLAN charges not included in MSIL price

  3. In-span Fibre join 21CN Core Fibre MSAN? Boarder Gateway? Virtual Legacy Switch? Congruent Call Pricing for PSTN Emulation (PATS/SIP-I): C M S A N Fibre MSAN IP Border Gateway Customer sited NTE MSIL System terminated on Customer Site MSIL - ISH PSTN Conveyance (Currently IBC/IEC/ppm) End User Line • Call conveyance split between VLAN and Call charges. • 3 Options for VLAN/Call charge Boundary (VCB) • VCB must be identifiable by call server and recorded in CDR

  4. Clive’s Matrix • Asks about different legacy switches • Asks about IECs and long lined switches • Asks about capacity rental to Metronodes • Answers depend on location of VLAN / Call Boundary • i.e. where are calls charged from

  5. Clive Feather Matrix

  6. In-span Fibre join 21CN Core Congruent Call charges - Simple Option A C M S A N • VLAN / Call Boundary at IP boarder gateway (Metronode sites) • Calls charged between Border Gateway and CMSAN based on NCC • Cheapest Legacy EBC charge from Metronode site to CMSAN site • Ignores legacy switch types • LES rate to all lines formerly parented on any DLEs located at Handover site • ST rate to lines on VDLEs parented on any tandem at Handover site • No VLAN distance charges if handover at Metronode site • FMSAN co-located with IP Border gateway • Option for VLANs from remote FMSANs at existing POH Fibre MSAN IP Border Gateway Customer sited NTE

  7. In-span Fibre join 21CN Core Congruent Call charges - Simple Option B C M S A N • VLAN / Call Boundary at Fibre MSAN gateway • Calls charged between FMSAN and CMSAN based on NCC • Cheapest Legacy EBC charge from FMSAN site to CMSAN site • Ignores legacy switch types • LES rate to all lines formerly parented on any DLEs located at Handover site • ST rate to lines on VDLEs parented on any tandem at Handover site • De-regulated Tandem to other destinations • No VLAN distance charges • All calls still routed via Metronode – charge model would change when congruent pricing ceases Fibre MSAN IP Border Gateway Customer sited NTE

  8. In-span Fibre join 21CN Core Congruent Call charges - Option C C M S A N • VLAN / Call Boundary at Virtual Legacy Switch • No design specified – feasibility not established • Requires call server to put VLAN ID in CDR • VLAN Distance charge to Location of Virtual Legacy Switch • EBC charge band from specific legacy switch to CMSAN • Separate VLANs for each virtual legacy switch – more than one per site. Fibre MSAN IP Border Gateway Customer sited NTE
