How the Assessment System Works Required Training Module 4
Learning Objectives • Assessment system design • Content • Types of assessment • Test design • Testlet delivery • Test results
Content of the Assessment • Grades 3-8 and high school • English Language Arts (ELA) • Mathematics • Blueprints
Types of Assessment Spring (End of Year) Instructionally Embedded Optional – teachers select the EE Responses do not factor into final results for summative purposes • Required • Cover the full blueprint • Results used for summative purposes 2014-15: Several field test opportunities
Test Design • Each testlet contains items from one or more Essential Elements • Math and reading: • 3-8 items + engagement activity • Total of 6-7 testlets (math) • Total of 4-6 testlets (ELA) • Writing: • Structured activity with several steps • Single testlet
Testlet Delivery System has testlets available at all 5 linkage levels for every part of the test Students take one testlet from one level for each group System determines which level to deliver to the student
Instructionally Embedded Assessments • Fall – Early Spring • OPTIONAL instructionally embedded testlets • Each covers a single EE and linkage level • Available in Educator Portal
What an instructionally embedded testlet looks like • ELA • Each testlet aligns to a single EE • 3-5 items per testlet • Built around a grade level appropriate text • Engagement activity is the first read of the text • 10-15 minutes to complete one testlet • Mathematics • Each testlet aligns to a single EE • 3-5 items per testlet • Engagement activity sparks prior knowledge • 5-10 minutes to complete one testlet
Results • Will be based on mastery of EEs and linkage levels assessed • From ONLY year-end assessments • Summative scores based on all EEs covered in the blueprint • WILL NOT incorporate any scores from the optional instructionally embedded assessment
Score Reports • Will be provided at individual student level • Will include multiple levels of information • Essential Element mastery • Conceptual area summary • Overall performance
