W.C Handy • The famous black Alabamian is W.C. Handy. • W.C. Handy was born on November 16, 1873 in Florence, Alabama. • He lived in a log cabin .his grandfather built.
W.C. Handy • When he was young he had a keen interest in music. • One day he saw a guitar in a window, and he secretly saved enough money to buy it.
W.C. Handy • Handy became quite a famous musician. • He played in a group called the ‘Mahara’s Minstrels’, and they traveled all over the world to play.
W. C. Handy • Handy was married to a young lady named Elizabeth V. Price. Handy and his wife, Elizabeth got tired of traveling and he quit the band. • He then began teaching at Agricultural and mechanical college in Normal Alabama. • After his wife Elizabeth died he stopped teaching and rejoin his band.
W.C. Handy • W.C. Handy died on March 28, 1958 of acute Bronchial Pneumonia at the age of 84. • W.C. Handy was a great musician, he never gave up, when anybody doubted him. • He pursued his dreams and proved them wrong.
