  13. Getting Everyone On Board I teach PE. There are not going to be any resources for me… I’m not comfortable using technology. I’d rather be grading papers and getting prepared for tomorrow’s lesson.

Potential Conflicts • Special areas teachers often sit through PD that does not apply to their immediate assignment. • Some teachers are reluctant to use technology because they are uncomfortable with it themselves. • Many veteran teachers have seen educational fads come and go and would rather spend time in their classroom preparing for upcoming lessons than learn about a new “fad.” • Other - Describe another conflict that could occur.

Getting Everyone On Board • In a small group: • Choose a potential conflict to discuss • Create a Conflict Map – Use the Drama Map from RWT and include: • the conflict (brief description) • why the conflict occurs • a possible solution to get the training participant on board • Choose a representative from your group to share your conflict map.   17. Setting the Stage “An initial step in teaching is to activate the prior knowledge of the learner related to the topic being introduced. Using interactive strategies to activate prior knowledge at the beginning of a session brings three benefits: It sets the norm for interactive, not passive, learning; it levels the playing field of knowledge; and it provides the psychological safety necessary for the social construction of meaning.” Garmston, 2005

Customized Training Plan Field Trainers are encouraged to customize Thinkfinity training for end users to meet the needs of the audience, with consideration being given to: • Availability of technology (inside and outside of the classroom) • Diversity of students’ ability (ELL, special needs, gifted/talented) • Socio-economic status • Ethnicity • School funding / special grants • Grade • Subject matter • Teacher ability/comfort level • Current trends/legislation • Student : Teacher ratio

Training Plan - Part 1 • Identify a need – align with school/district goals • Determine content – what will you offer? • Logistics – location, time, contact, equipment • Software, Plug-ins, Firewalls – verify if installed • More logistics – registration and recertification • Session Announcement – promote/advertise

  24. Training Plan - Part 2 • Review course descriptions • Examine Trainer’s Guide (Awareness, TCH-C) • Locate appropriate Interactives • Develop agenda • Prepare training materials/handouts • Gather required supplies • Rehearse presentation • Save presentation

  25. Training Agenda You may wish to use the Thinkfinity Training Plan Template, which includes text form fields for easy completion, or you may design your own format for the agenda.

  26. Develop a Customized Training Plan • You may wish to work with a partner or work individually. • Think about a realistic training scenario - audience, goals, location, time available, etc. • Begin work on your plan.

  29. Group Discussion… Moving Forward – What are your next steps in preparing to conduct Thinkfinity training for end users?

  30. Certificate Requirements It is your responsibility to maintain your Thinkfinity Field Trainer status. Here’s what you must do: • Each year you must train 5 people in at least one “official” session with 4.0 survey scores. • An “official” training session is one in which all four of the required steps are taken for the session. Your certification status and training scores may be reviewed through myThinkfinity.
