What is a Hero? • “In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods” • “A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life” Dictionary.com

  3. Our Definition of a Hero • A person who is brave • A person who does something special • A person who puts others first • A person who risks his/her life

  4. What is a Role-Model • A person who serves as a model in a particular behavioral or social role for another person to emulate. • A person worthy of respect dictionary.com

  5. A Role Model Is… • Someone we can look up to • Someone we want to be like • Someone who has positive qualities • Someone who demonstrates to others how to act, think, etc.

  6. What is an Idol • One that is adored, often blindly or excessively. • Something visible but without substance. dictionary.com

  7. What is Character • The combination of qualities or features that distinguishes one person, group, or thing from another • Moral or ethical strength. • Public estimation of someone; reputation dictionary.com

  8. Can be trusted Knows what is right and wrong Has strong morals Will always try to do the right thing Is willing to help others Isn’t selfish A Person With Character:

What’s the Difference? • An idol is admired, but maybe doesn’t deserve to be • A role modelhas qualities that a person might want to imitate, but the person maybe hasn’t done anything “special” • A herois unselfish and puts someone else first and is willing to even risk his/her life • A herohas done something to distinguish him/herself • “Character” means you have the qualities necessary to make you a role-model or hero
