While you wait . . . • Please let me know you were here by signing the list on the table. • Take a handout of tonight’s presentation; it’s great for taking notes. • Also, take a note card to write down any questions you might have during the presentation—I will collect them and answer them after the presentation.

Level IV Services Referral and Screening Process • http://www.fcps.edu/is/aap/level4.shtml • Grades 3-6 • Parent referral (NO automatic screening) • Grade 2 • Pool (automatically screened) • Established by FCPS using test scores from the Naglieri Nonverbal Abilities Test (NNAT) and the Cognitive Ability Test (CogAT) • Notified by letter • Parent referral

  5. Screening Process: Step 1 • Parent Referral deadline: • February 3, 2014, 4:00 p.m. • No exceptions • Second grade pool candidates are automatically screened. No referral is necessary.

  6. Screening Process: Step 2 REQUIRED MATERIALS • Referral form or pool candidate • Ability test scores • Progress reports • Gifted Behaviors Rating Scale with commentary (GBRS) • Achievement test scores if applicable • Student work sample provided by school

Screening Process: Step 3 OPTIONAL MATERIALS: DUE 2/3/14 • Parent/Guardian questionnaire • Student work samples (maximum of 4 pages, single- sided, letter-size) • Certificates/awards/letters (maximum of 5 pages, single-sided, letter-size) • Additional testing • Private testing (NOT GMU) requires 2 copies of license

  8. Screening Process: Step 4 LOCAL SCREENING COMMITTEE • Consists of teachers, administrators, specialists, and AART from the local school • Reviews documents submitted for files • Prepares GBRS • AART prepares files for submission

  9. Screening Process: Step 5 CENTRAL SCREENING COMMITTEE • Central screening committee reviews files and makes decisions in March/April • Oversight committee reviews all decisions in April

  10. Screening Process: Step 6 NOTIFICATION • Parents notified by letter end of April. • Parents may appeal ineligible decisions in June • Appeals decisions mailed in July

  11. Referral Deadline ALL PARENT REFERRAL FORMS AND OPTIONAL MATERIALS ARE DUE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2014 4:00 P.M. NO EXCEPTIONS
