  11. Membership with CCPA Professional Member ($150) • Individuals who hold a degree or diploma in counselling or a related field, • or individuals who have equivalent experience and training that aligns with the professional standards and ethics of CCPA as assessed by the Registrar.

  12. Student Member ($75) • Student presently enrolled in an undergraduate, post-baccalaureat certificate or diploma program, or graduate program in counselling or a related field • Membership fees are subject to change with notice

Certification • The CCPA has established a national certification process and maintains a registry of certified counsellors. • CCPA's Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) designation: • Is a protected title • Identifies counsellors who have obtained certification through the association by meeting defined criteria.

Aims of Certification • To establish a process and National recognition for the title of Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) • To demonstrate to the public our counsellors’ high level of professionalism • To maintain a directory of Canadian Certified Counsellors • To promote professional responsibility

  15. To ensure professional visibility with employers, individual clients, colleagues from other professions • To promote professional development of counsellors • To facilitate professional recognition when we advocate for access to third-party payment eligibility with Health Insurance companies

Certification Requirements • Applicants must be a CCPA member prior to applying for certification. • Only members with a completed graduate-level degree in counselling or a related field are eligible for certification. • The graduate degree is required to be from an AUCC recognized educational institution.

  17. Must have completed GRADUATE course work in two compulsory areas: • Counselling Theory 2. Supervised Counselling Practicum • with at least 120 hours of direct client counselling (compulsory) • Characteristics of supervision include: • Direct face-to-face supervision, • Indirect supervision

  18. Must have completed GRADUATE course work in six (6) of the following areas: • Counselling and Communication Skills • Group Counselling • Theory of Career Development • Assessment and Testing • Research and Evaluation • Consultation Methods • Learning and Human Development • Psychological Education • Counselling Intervention Strategies • Gender Issues • Multicultural Counselling • Counselling in Specialized Settings • Professional Ethics

  19. Documents Required for Certification • Completed CCC Application Form • Administration fee of $145 ($80 Evaluation + $65 Certification fees) • Submission of an official transcript 3. A description of the graduate courses being used for certification (often from the university course calendar).

  20. 4. Practicum Description form • Completed, signed and returned by the course supervisor • Two professional references - using CCPA’s Reference form 6. Police Criminal Records Check - Conducted within last 12 months

  21. Maintaining Certification • Renew your membership annually • Pay annual certification fee of $65 • Meet CCPA professional development standards: • A minimum of 24 CEC hours (Continuing Education Credit) related to the field of counselling, within every 3 year period

  22. Incentive Program • When graduating student members apply for certification, their professional membership fee of $150 will be waived for one year. • Instead of paying $295.00 you will pay $145.00 • In order to qualify: • You must currently be a student member, and have held that membership for at least one year. • You must apply for and be granted the certification when your membership renewal is due
