  19. Looking Ahead: New Offer Process • Presentation by Dave Brown

  20. Changes in Offer Process 2019-2020 Season

  21. Things We Will Keep • Pool system training and rosters for age groups with multiple teams • Will re-evaluate rosters during the season - two re-evaluation periods in fall and one in spring • Continue to have an evaluation process instead of tryouts • Evaluation process will still be external players joining in with regular practices to see if they enjoy the set-up • Can create mixed age group teams if we have enough interest from players, but communication has to be key to these players to explain that they are being offered spots on a combined team and why they have received those offers

  22. Why the change? • Due to the current system, this season we have been forced to have multiple age pools with lower numbers, creating small rosters for many teams. • Small roster numbers are extremely tough on players, families and coaches, as players are frequently asked to sub on other teams. • Allows us to be honest with players and parents, helping players play at their appropriate level to maximize their development. • Enables us to not offer players who are not putting in the necessary effort or are distracting others at practices, therefore hindering others’ development. • Avoids uncertainty of who is playing with which team every week. • Enables us to create more common teammates for players to play and bond with. • All players must register for evaluation sessions ($5 registration fee) to express their desire to stay in the program. This will allow us to know which players have no interest in continuing to play competitive soccer.

  23. Evaluation Dates • Two evaluation dates per age pool • If players miss an evaluation date, they are welcome to attend a different date • Sessions for boys and girls high school ages will be done after the conclusion of the girls WIAA high school season, using the same approach • Players currently in the competitive program will attend their regularly scheduled practices

  24. Offer Process: Wave 1 • Hold evaluation dates for all U11-U14/15 age pools, week of May 13 • Put players who attended the evaluations in an order to determine which players will be offered spots. Decisions made by lead coaches for age pool and DOC. Decide how many teams we will field at each age. • Send players who are currently in the program early offers via open promotion. These will be players the coach and DOC have decided should be on the team/pool based on skill and willingness to develop. Offers will be sent on June 3, which allows time for rainouts and near the end of the school year.

  25. Offer Process: Wave 2 • Players who decline their early offers (no reply is considered decline) are compared to the other players that were evaluated and placed into that order appropriately. The deadline to reply to early offers is noon June 13. • Can extend offers to players currently in the program if they are taking the place of a player who declined an early offer. • External offers sent at noon June 14 (U11-U13) and noon June 21 (U14/15 and older). Those dates set by WYSA. • Alternative offers sent out in order if there are declines, similar to current system

  26. Offer Process: Wave 3 • Evaluate numbers for each age pool/team after all responses received. • Reach out to any players in the program who did not receive an offer for their age-appropriate pool/team and offer them a spot in a different age pool if there are openings or on a combined age group team or a training spot. • Contact other local clubs to see if they had any players who would like to play but didn’t make a team, or to see if they have spots available for players to whom we could not offer a spot. • If players not currently in our program who did not attend evaluations contact us about joining OSC, evaluate if we have roster room available to do so. If we do, these players will have a session with an OSC coach to let us evaluate him/her and allow the player to evaluate our coach to see if it is a good fit.

  27. Numbers for each age pool • Each age group will have a desired number of players, to see how many teams we will form at each age group.

  28. U11/12 Teams • Ideal number per roster: 12 • Minimum number of players for one team: 11 • Maximum number of players for one team: 14 • To create two teams, need at least 22 players. Maximum for two teams is 28 players. • For three teams, need 36-42 players.

  29. U13+ Teams • Ideal number per roster: 15. • Minimum number of players for one team: 13 • Maximum number of players for one team: 18 • To create two teams, need at least 26 players. Maximum for two teams is 36 players. • For three teams, need 42-54 players.

  30. Example 1 • 17 players register for U11 evaluations. All 17 players are competing for a maximum 14 spots on the roster. • All players evaluated during evaluation sessions against one another to determine which players will receive early offers. • Coaches and DOC decide on the 14 players. 13 are already in the club and will receive early offers June 3, expiring noon June 13. • 12 players accept the early offer. One player rejects the early offer. At noon June 14, the next two players, per rankings from evaluations, receive offers. • If one of those two offers are declined, the next player in the rankings receives an offer. (Same as current system)

  31. Example 2 • U13 team going to U14/15 next season. • U13 team currently has 16 players on it. • 3 current U14/15 players will be in 8th grade next school year, so they also qualify for this team. • No players from other clubs register for evaluations. • The first 18 players ranked at evaluations will receive an early offer. • If any of those offers are declined, the 19th player will receive an offer. Since the player is in the club, that can be an early offer.

  32. Example 3 • 30 players register for evaluations for a U13 team • Enough numbers to make two teams, so all players would receive an offer providing they show the correct attitude and appropriate skill level to play competitive soccer. • Players currently in the club will receive early offers, expiring June 13. • Players not currently registered with the club will receive their offers on June 14.

  33. DOC will attend and lead one session for each evaluation pool. • Age pools' current coaches will also be at evaluation sessions and will lead the session that DOC does not attend. • All coaches who attend sessions will meet and decide which players will receive offers. • Will confirm which coaches will be at which session when coaches and assignments are confirmed for the 2019 Spring season. Coaches For Evaluation Week Schedule
