  1. Aboriginal Peoples Students as Teachers

  2. Step One • Get in your assigned group and, paragraph by paragraph, take turns reading the text provided out loud.

  3. Step Two • At the end of the text, you will find a graphic organizer with several subheadings. Divide the subheadings amongst your group as fairly as possible.

  4. Step Three • Work alone to do your part of the research and write details into your assigned area of the graphic organizer. Use a highlighter on the text to show the important facts you have written notes about. Then, on a sheet of paper, organize your notes into a paragraph about your topic(s).

  5. Step Four • Divide up these roles: • - "Program Designer" - this person will open a new Power Point project, choose a background theme (with group input), and create the correct number of slides (this can be adjusted throughout the project). • - "Head Secretary" - This person will type the paragraphs into the presentation • - "Project Director" - This person will plan the slides according to number of sentences and make sure all timelines are being met. • - "Graphics Designer" - This person will choose pictures, maps and graphics to accompany the sentences to help us understand the content and make the presentation attractive and interesting. • - "Master Teacher" - This person will create a 10 question, multiple choice "Quiz" on the content in the presentation. The quiz will be typed and submitted to Ms. Mackey at least 2 days prior to the presentation so it can be photocopied for the class. The quiz will given right after the presentation and will be marked by the group.

  6. Step Five • Timelines: • March 24th – 25th- read text and assign subsections • March 26th- Highlight and write sentences • March 27th- Begin PowerPoint and Quiz writing. • Presentations Week of April 14th- one or two presentations per day.

  7. Success Criteria • We will be successful in our role of students as teachers when: • - our presentation is interesting and knowledgeable • - we have a clear understanding of the material we are presenting • - our presentation covers all the key points • - our presentation is slow, clear and understandable • - every member of the group does their part, parts are fair, and everyone completes their work on time • - our test assesses our topic information very well • - our students do well on our test!
