  3. Pre- test about Blood Safety • What do you think “Blood Safety” is? • Why is it important to be safe around blood? • What is HIV / AIDS ? • How can you be safe around blood?

  4. “Blood Safety” is knowing how to be safe around blood!

  5. HIV / AIDS • A disease caused by germs called a virus that can be found in a person’s blood • You CANNOT get HIV / AIDS by touching the person with the disease • You CAN get the disease if that person’s blood gets in your blood

  6. How does that happen? • If you have a cut or sore on you and you touch someone else’s blood then it can get inside of you But… • What if you hug someone? • What if you shake hands? • Should you be afraid of a person with the HIV / AIDS disease?

  7. What do you do if someone is bleeding? • Do we know who has HIV / AIDS? • Tell an adult! • Wear latex gloves! • What do latex gloves do? • Who else wears latex gloves?

  10. Pre-test on Touches • What does “private” mean? • What is an Okay touch? • What is a NOT Okay touch? • How do you know what kind of touch it is? • What should you do if you get a NOT Okay touch?

  11. Private- Keep Out! • What does private mean? • What are some things that are private? • Picking your nose • Going to the bathroom • Getting undressed • Taking a bath or shower • Your private parts Your private parts are what your bathing suit covers. Who is allowed to see your private parts?

  12. Okay Touches Hugs High 5’s Hand shakes Arm around your shoulder Holding hands NOT Okay Touches Any touch that you don’t like or that makes you uncomfortable Any touch that touches a private part (anywhere your bathing suit covers) Kind of Touches

  13. How do I know what kind of touch it is?

  14. What should you do if you get a NOT Okay touch? • Say “ NO!” • Get away from that person immediately! • Tell an adult you trust • Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa • Teacher or counselor at school • Doctor, police man

  15. Not your fault! • It is not your fault if someone else makes a very bad choice to touch you in a way that is NOT Okay. • The people who love you will be very proud of you for being smart and telling them.
