  1. FINDING THE HOLY PLACE THE WRONG PLACE

  2. WHAT IS HOLINESS? Holiness means to be set apart from the lost world

  3. WHAT IS HOLINESS? WHAT IS A “HOLY PLACE”? Holiness means to be set apart from the lost world Any physical space that is uniquely set apart from the sinfulness of the world - - a place devoted to the glory of God

  4. Exo 3:2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush [was] not consumed. ... 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest [is] holy ground.

  5. Exo 26:33 And thou shalt hang up the vail under the taches, that thou mayest bring in thither within the vail the ark of the testimony: and the vail shall divide unto you between the holy [place] and the most holy. 34 And thou shalt put the mercy seat upon the ark of the testimony in the most holy [place].

  6. NEW TESTAMENT: HOLY PEOPLE Luk 23:44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

  7. NEW TESTAMENT: HOLY PEOPLE 1Co 3:6 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

  8. THE PROBLEM

  9. THE PROBLEM There is a difference between being holy and living holy

  10. WHAT DO WE DO? We use the bible to teach us how to overcome sin… The Wrong Place (or where not to be) The Right Place (where to be) The Final Place (what to strive for)

  11. THE PLAIN A PLACE of PRIDE // GEN 11

  12. THE PLACES WE SETTLE Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

  13. KEY POINT #1 Holiness is refusing to settle for the world’s best offer

  14. THE PEOPLE THAT SURROUND US Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

  15. THE PEOPLE THAT SURROUND US Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

  16. THE PEOPLE THAT SURROUND US Psa 1:1 Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

  17. KEY POINT #2 Holiness is refusing to keep bad company

  18. THE PERSONAL MOTIVATION 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top [may reach] unto heaven

  25. WHAT DID WE LEARN FROM THE PLAIN OF SHINAR? DON’T SETTLE FOR WORLDLY LIVING DON’T SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE WICKED DON’T STRIVE FOR PERSONAL AMBITIONS.

  26. THE HIGH PLACES A PLACE of STRANGE GODS // 1 KINGS

  27. THE HIGH PLACES God doesn’t like high places Lev 26:30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

  28. UNIFIED & FOCUSED WORSHIP 1Ki 5:3 Thou knowest how that David my father could not build an house unto the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet. 4 But now the LORD my God hath given me rest on every side, [so that there is] neither adversary nor evil occurrent. 5 And, behold, I purpose to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy room, he shall build an house unto my name.

  29. UNIFIED & FOCUSED WORSHIP 1Ki 8:55 And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, [were] with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude. 6 And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy [place, even] under the wings of the cherubims.

  30. UNIFIED & FOCUSED WORSHIP ... 10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy [place], that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD. 12 Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. 13 I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. 14 And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;)

  31. UNIFIED & FOCUSED WORSHIP 15 And he said, Blessed [be] the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled [it], saying, 16 Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel.

  32. UNIFIED & FOCUSED WORSHIP ... 60 That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD [is] God, [and that there is] none else. 61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day. 62 And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD. 63 And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD.

  33. DIVIDING THE WORSHIP 1Ki 11:6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as [did] David his father. 7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that [is] before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 8 And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.

  34. KEY POINT #4 Holiness is refusing to have a divided worship

  35. 2Co 6:15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, 18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

  36. WHAT DID WE LEARN FROM THE HIGH PLACES? THERE IS NO ROOM IN OUR FAITH FOR MORE THAN ONE GOD - JESUS CHRIST

  37. THE ROOFTOP A PLACE of SECRET INDULGENCE // 2 SAM 11

  38. LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY 2Sa 11:1 And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth [to battle], that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

  39. 45. Job 36:20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place. Pro 7:9 In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: 10 And, behold, there met him a woman [with] the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. Job 24:13 They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof. 14 The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief. 15 The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth [his] face.

  46. KEY POINT #7 Holiness is avoiding times and places that invite temptation

  47. LACK OF DISCRETION and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman [was] very beautiful to look upon. 3 And David sent and enquired after the woman. And [one] said, [Is] not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?
