Requirements and Challenges • Requirements  • Easy to measure • Company or departement-specific • Lagging and leading • Credible and accepted by staff • causally related to accident and incident frequency and severity. • include system failures as well as human error. • include the whole spectrum of airside operations • To be avoided  • Inconsistent definitions • Focus only on very few indicators • only reactive, lagging indicators (e.g. accidents, accident rates) • complex and impracticable • Based on incomplete or false data • Benchmarking may result in a distorted picture (different reporting thresholds) ACI OSSC Amsterdam, 11.-13.9.2007
