  1. Evidence of PardonNehemiah 9:16-31 Many say— “I know I’m saved, because I feel saved.” For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Rom. 10:17) For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing. (2 Tim. 4:6-8)

  2. Feelings Are Not Necessarily Evidence of Pardon • Paul knew he was saved. • And Paul felt saved. • But he wasn’t saved because he felt saved. • He knew he was saved because he kept the faith and finished the course. • His knowledge of his obedience to God’s Word gave him confidence to know he was saved and as a result he felt good about his eternal condition.

  3. Feelings Are Not Necessarily Evidence of Pardon • Jacob felt like he had lost a son and mourned greatly because of this feeling (Gen 37:29-36). • Feeling are based on testimony, but feelings are not the evidence of the truthfulness of the testimony. • Saul felt good about persecuting Christians (Acts 23:1; 26:9-11) • There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Prov. 16:25) • The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise. (Prov. 12:15)

  4. (Prov. 12:15) • Complete adherenceto the truth essential (Matt. 7:21-23; Jn. 8:32) • Conscience and salvation are related (1 Tim. 1:5)

  5. Pardon Is An Act of God • They refused to obey, And they were not mindful of Your wonders That You did among them. But they hardened their necks, And in their rebellion They appointed a leader To return to their bondage. But You are God, Ready to pardon, Gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, Abundant in kindness, And did not forsake them. (Neh. 9:17) • Who is a God like You, Pardoning iniquity And passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in mercy. (Micah 7:18)

  6. Pardon Is An Act of God • Men released Barabbas, but did God release him (Lk. 23:17-18)? • We can know God has forgiven when we obey Him, because God cannot lie (Heb. 6:18). • Thief on the cross knew because Jesus told Him. • And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise." (Luke 23:43) • If we are in the Lord’s church we know we are saved (Acts 2:47). • We know because God says so!

  7. Knowledge of Pardon • The Spirit bears witness with our spirit (Rom. 8:16). • Words of the Holy Spirit are in revelation (2 Pet. 1:21; 1 Cor. 2:13; Eph. 3:5). • God’s Spirit says: • Faith (Jn. 8:24; Heb. 11:6) • Repentance (Lk. 13:3; 2 Pet. 3:9) • Confession (Matt. 10:32; Rom. 10:10) • Baptism (Mk. 16:16; Acts 22:16; 1 Pet. 3:21) • Every case of conversion in Acts bears this same testimony. • Man’s witness is in his heart—Did we do what God said?

  8. Sinners Can Be Deceived • and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thess. 2:10-12) • But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (Jas. 1:22)

  9. Products of Salvation • Rejoicing, Assurance (Acts 8:39; 9:9, 18-19) • New Life (2 Cor. 5:17; 1 Pet. 4:4; Col. 3:1) • Confidence (2 Tim. 1:12; Rom. 8:31; 1 Thess. 5:9-10; Phil. 4:13; Jn. 10:27-29) • Peace that the world doesn’t understand (Phil. 4:6-7)
