2. It is now only three weeks until this year’s Discover Sailing Day and it’s all about getting the word out there…. Click on the play icon for sound
3. Member’s Invitation to Friends Word of mouth is a great way to promote your club. And one of THE most effective ways to attract participants to your Discover Sailing Day is to have your club member’s extend an invitation to their friends and family. Click on the play icon for sound
4. Member’s Call to Action Download the electronic “Member’s Call to Action” template; Add in your clubs details; Send to your members asking them to forward to their friends and family. Click on the picture below to download and edit this PDF. Click on the play icon for sound
5. Local Area Marketing Now is the time to get out into your local community. Visit local shops, businesses, libraries, councils and community centres with posters and postcards advertising your club’s Discover Sailing Day. Yachting Australia has developed a range of promotional materials to assist you to spread the message that the Day is happening soon. Click on the play icon for sound
6. Promotional Materials Click on the postcard below to download the Discover Sailing Day promotional materials. 7. Media Releases Three weeks prior to the Discover Sailing Day is a good time to send your media release to local newspapers and other media outlets. Write your own release or use the one provided in the ‘Discover Sailing Day Club Guide’. Remember to include two or three high-resolution photographs to accompany your media release. 8. Local Media…. It’s a good idea to follow up your media release with a phone call to ensure it has been received and to check the photos are appropriate. Inviting a local journalist to your Discover Sailing Day may lead to some editorial after the event and assist you in promoting your club further. Discover Sailing Day Checklist Activities for the day set out in a schedule All club members aware of the day and how they can be involved Volunteers recruited and assigned roles Boats, equipment and facilities in place for the day Details on MyClub and MyCentre up-to-date and correct Club website clearly promotes Discover Sailing Day and tells participants how to register Regular updates on the club’s social media site about the Day Ordered free Discover Sailing promotional material for distribution Click on the play icon for sound

Discover Sailing Day Checklist Continued… Local marketing plan developed and implemented Ordered Discover Sailing merchandise Contacted local media outlets Club signage appropriate for welcoming new participants Risk and safety management plan in place – including bad weather contingency plan Food and beverage organised for the Day.
