(6) The Sailing Pathway – a framework for guiding participation & retention • (7) Sailability - including people of all-abilities in all aspects of sailing • (8) Discover Sailing Hosts – existing members who have a role in welcoming new participants to the club • (9) Sailing holidays • (10) Crew Matching - connecting skippers with people who want to sail

Discover Sailing Days • What are Discover Sailing Days? • Previously under the names ‘Try Sailing’/‘Go Sailing’ • Any affiliated club can register to host a DS Day • Open clubs to local communities • Showcase sailing as fun, safe, accessible, affordable, welcoming • Free for participants • People new to sailing • Run by club volunteers

  5. When are Discover Sailing Days held? • Australia-wide Discover Sailing Day • SUNDAY 27th OCTOBER • Discover Sailing Days throughout the year • To coincide with community events

  6. Activities • Most club run the day between 10am – 4pm • Boat & PFDs ready to start for 10am • Take participation out for a sail (30-40 mins) • Show them the club facilities • Information about what the club offers

  7. Next Steps for Participants…….. • Discover Sailing Experience (at DS Centre) • Discover Sailing Course (at DS Centre) • Crewing (at any club) • ? Membership • Another DS Day • Volunteering at a club

Making your DS Day a success • Plan early • Assign a volunteer to organise the Day • Appoint a sub-committee • Find volunteers to be Discover Sailing Hosts • Local marketing is very important • Make sure your website provides clear information • Order free promotional material • Be clear about the next steps for participants
