Government and Independence • The government is a Republic, leader president Juan Evo Morales Ayma (since 2006, re-elected for another 5 year term) • August 6th 1825 from Spain Relations with the U.S. Evo Morales exiled the us ambassador based on the accusation of conspiracy, mixed with the thoughts of USA imperialism. Not hostile, but not friendly

  6. Current Leader of Bolivia • Evo Morales is the current leader or president of Bolivia and was re-elected in the 2006 elections held by popular vote. He won with 64% approval rating, he was at one time a coca farmer, (cocaine), until he realized that he could do something about his situation and the situation of the indigenous peoples of Bolivia. He has made changes in hopes of progress, but lately this has been slowing and corruption and money laundering is unfortunately leaking back into the system.

Environmental and Governmental Problems • Deforestation because of the need for agricultural space and timber • Erosion because of poor agricultural methods • Pollution of water supplies from lack of waste systems • Corruption off and on since the founding of Bolivia • Almost a 1/3 (30.3 %, 2009) of the population is living under the Poverty line $2/per day

Bolivian Events and Trends • Independence august 6th 1825, named for Simon Bolivar • There is a trend of corrupt governments being ended by violent coups, followed by a similar government that is ruled by military presence from the founding of Bolivia till present • Violent coup carried out by Gen.   9. Culture • No outstanding cultural features (outstanding: notably different or unique) • Music, festivals, and most arts have stayed some-what indigenous throughout the eras • Some Spanish influence in art and dance
