Los pronombres demostrativos ¿Quieres comprar esta chaqueta? Do you want to buy this jacket? - No, no me gusta ésa. Voy a compraraquélla. - No, I don’t like that one. I’m going to buy that one over there.
Demonstrative pronouns always match the nouns they replace in gender and number. Estas botas son de mi padre. Ésas son de mi madre. These boots are my father’s. Those are my mother’s.
There are three neuter demonstrative pronouns: esto, eso, and aquello. They refer to unspecified nouns, situations, ideas and concepts. They don’t change in gender or number and don’t carry a written accent. Estoesdifícil. This is hard. ¿Qué es eso? What’sthat? ¿Quéesaquello? What’s that over there?
