  2. CFA #1 • Assignment: research an issue of public policy (gun control, flag burning, dress codes, capital punishment, etc) using THREE possible sources. Select the source that they feel is the best for research • Rationale: students must learn how to navigate through many different websites to find appropriate information. Students need to recognize the difference between a good site and a bad site for research

  3. CFA #2 • Assignment: Students research an issue of public policy in order to find the pro and con side of the issue. Students utilize the same three resources as in CFA # 1. Student use 4 articles and create a bibliography

  4. Informing Instruction • Teaching research skills • Recognizing good versus bad sources of information (i.e. no wikipedia or .coms) • Ability to navigate a website to find appropriate information that may not be readily apparent • Compiling information from a variety of sources

  5. CFA # 3 • Assignment: Students choose their own public policy topic in order to write a well written research paper utilizing a variety of sources. Students utilize graphic organizers to scaffold their progress towards completion: • Focusing on Public Policy • Introduction to Public Policy • Political Spectrum Worksheet-(using prior knowledge from previous units of study) • Political Spectrum Solution • Personal Recommendation Worksheet

  6. CFA # 3 • Each scaffolding worksheet informs teacher instruction • Students receive personalized help based off the results of their organizers. • Students receive individualized instruction during the writing process

  7. Student Self-Assessment Projects • US History • Unit Exams • CIA • Unit Assessment Reflections Unit 1 • Mini research projects
