General news I • Update on progress for TP: • 2 slides follow to be shown at USG02 (Upgrade Steering Group) Monday 27 Jan at 16:00 (1 hr ago, https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=297597) … comments + time machine? • LHCC has concerns about R&D program for Phase 2 • Uncovered areas? • Duplication of effort between CMS & ATLAS? • Has asked for presentations at March 4 meeting • See USG01 https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=294535 • Therefore, upgrade management is conducting an R&D survey: • Information to be gathered by JH before USG meeting of Feb. 3 (1 week!). • Template for information attached to the agenda (Phase2_R&D_template_JM_DC.docx). • U.S. R&D proposals submitted for 2014, no decisions • Others – please let me know, even verbally, ASAP! Recap: the Phase 2 muon plans Three main aspects: • Aging studies, replacement • GIF++ tests for CSC and RPC chamber aging, DT components • Freon replacement for RPC gas after LS3 • DT minicrate replacement • Forward muon trigger and redundancy • GE1/1 and GE2/1 based on improved L1 trigger, redundancy in the most intense region • RE3/1 and R4/1: timing for background rejection and PU mitigation • Forward muon tagging extension (ME0) • Large eta coverage (~2.1-4.0) for big acceptance, S/N boosts in modes with muon • Hermeticity for modes excluding muons
