  1. Rediscovering a Forgotten Book 2 Kgs. 22-23

  2. Lost and Forgotten Books Discovered (2 Kgs. 22:8-13)

  3. "I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD." (2 Kgs. 22:8)

  4. Josiah lived in a Day When People Had Forgotten God’s Word • Hosea 4 • 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being priest for Me; Because you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.

  5. Washington Post March 4, 2004 • The U.S. is the most religious nation in the developed world • Fewer than ½ can identify Genesis as the first book of the Bible • Fewer than 1/3 knows that Jesus delivered the sermon on the mount. • 75% of adults polled believe that the phrase “God helps those who help themselves.” Comes from the Bible. • More than 10% of people thought Joan of Arc was Noah’s wife.  • Only half can name one of the four gospels. • Two-thirds of Americans endorse the simultaneous teaching of both creationism and evolution in the public school system. • Those who identified themselves as evangelical Christians (those who teach, or evangelize to others) were only slightly better than non-evangelicals!

  6. Josiah’s Response • #1) He demonstrated a response you would expect from someone with a heart who sincerely wanted to serve the Lord. • #2) The king took immediate steps to remedy the situation as quickly as possible. • #3) He determined to do better at serving the Lord in the future.

  7. #3) He determined to do better at serving the Lord in the future. • He “made a covenant before the LORD, to follow the LORD and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant.” • Brought out all of the articles from the temple pertaining to the false gods and burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron. (2 Kings 23:4) • Removed the idolatrous priests from their positions (2 Kings 23:5) • He defiled all of the pagan holy places of worship (2 Kings 23:8, 10, 13). • He removed or destroyed all things from the land associated with false religion • He restored the Passover. • He acknowledged that His ignorance up to that point was no excuse and he didn’t try to make excuses for his actions – took full responsibility.

  8. Heed the Law of the Lord • "All things have been delivered to Me by My Father…“ (Lk. 10:22)

  9. Heed the Law of the Lord • (John 12:48) • "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day."

  10. Heed the Law of the Lord • “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you…” (John 15:14) • (This means we must live a faithful life.)

  11. Heed the Law of the Lord • Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep My commandments." (Jn. 14:15)

  12. Heed the Law of the Lord • John 14:21 • "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

  13. Heed the Law of the Lord • Luke 10:16 • "He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me."

  14. Heed the Law of the Lord • “…he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life…” (John 5:24)

  15. Heed the Law of the Lord • “…if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.” (John 8:24)

  16. Heed the Law of the Lord • “…Repent, and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)

  17. Heed the Law of the Lord • “…whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” (Mat. 10:32-33)

  18. Heed the Law of the Lord • "He who believes and is baptized will be saved…” (Mark 16:16)

  19. Heed the Law of the Lord • Mat. 28:18-19 • “…All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

  20. Heed the Law of the Lord • "And you will be hated by all for My name's sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved. (Matthew 10:22 NKJV)
