  1. Rap Culture or Crap Culture? A Presentation by: Agent Benjamin Middleton

  2. My Argument • I think that Rap culture is having a negative influence on the black community. Rap music in general glorifies a life of violence, sex, and drugs. Is this a message that young people should be receiving?

  3. Ethos • As a member of the black community I am appalled at the messages that are sent to young people through rap music. • Young people look to these rappers as role models. Is it any wonder that police are dealing with younger kids doing “badder” things?

  4. Logos • Rap music combines questionable messages with a catchy beat. When asked, most young people say that they “don’t listen to the words.” But when those same teens were read a single line from any of the top 10 rap songs they were able to not only finish the line but also recall song title and artist.

  5. Pathos • Statistics show that a large portion of the populations of prisons are black people. When presented with a constant message that engaging in violence and illegal behavior is “cool” it any wonder that this is true? • Something needs to be done before the next generation ends up worse than this one.

  6. What do you think? • Is rap culture a problem? • Are there bad messages in most rap songs? • It is too late to do anything? • Is my paper topic a good idea?
