  3. Lesson 2.1 God's Design of Vertebrates Objective: Students will identify vertebrates and classify some as birds and fish.

  4. Unique One of a kind

  5. Verterbrate: An animal with a backbone

  6. Classify To sort into groups based on similarities and differences

  7. Warm-blooded Warm blooded describes an animal whose body temperature does not change with the outside temperature. It’s body produces the heat it needs.

  8. Birds Birds are warm-blooded vertebrates with feathers, wings, and two feet. They have beaks instead of teeth.

  9. Cold-blooded Cold-blooded describes an animal whose body temperature changes with the outside temperature. It needs the sun to warms its blood.

  10. Fish Fish are cold-blooded vertebrates that use gills to breathe. Most are covered with scales and have fins to swim.

  11. Lesson 2.2 Mammals, Reptiles, Amphibians Objective: Students will continue their study of vertebrates by classifying some as mammals, reptiles, or amphibians.

  12. Review What is a vertebrate? An animal with a backbone

  13. What does classify mean? To sort into groups based on similarities and differences

  14. What is the difference between a cold-blooded and warm-blooded animal?

  15. Classifying Animals How is this animal classified and why?

  16. How is this animal classified and why?

  17. Mammals Mammals are warm-blooded vertebrates that have hair. They make milk for their babies. They have lungs to breathe air.

  18. Reptiles Reptiles are cold-blooded vertebrates that have dry, scaly skin. They have lungs to breathe.

  19. Amphibians Amphibians are cold-blooded vertebrates that have smooth, moist skin. Their bodies change as they grow.

  20. Lesson 2.3 Dogs, Cats, Guinea Pigs Objective: Students will identify dogs, cats, and guinea pigs as mammals and discuss each animal’s unique design.

  21. Review *What is a vertebrate? *Name the characteristics of a mammal. *What is the difference between warm-blooded and cold-blooded animals?

  22. Dogs *Breeds *God’s special design *Ability to be trained

  23. Service Dog Video

  24. Cats *God’s special design *Tongues *Tails

  25. Guinea Pigs *God’s special design *Teeth *Sounds

  26. Lesson 2.4 Iguanas Objective: Students will identify five distinguishing characteristics of reptiles and discuss specific features of iguanas.

  27. Reptiles Reptiles are vertebrates with dry, scaly skin. They use lungs to breathe. They are cold-blooded.

  28. Examples Can you name a reptile? alligator, crocodile, snake, lizard, turtle, and iguana

  29. Iguanas *Iguanas are reptiles *There are many different kinds *They live in rain forests, deserts, and by the sea *They are not always green

  30. Iguanas *Some iguanas can grow to be over six feet long *Plants are their main food source *God’s special design -tail

  31. What is a Reptile?Review *has a backbone *is cold-blooded *has dry, scaly skin *lays eggs on dry land *breathes with lungs

  32. Lesson 2.5 Frogs and Salamanders Objective: Students will compare and contrast amphibians and reptiles. They will order the stages of an amphibian’s life cycle.

  33. Reptiles *Cold Blooded *Lay eggs on dry land *Backbones *Scaly skin *Breathe with lungs

  34. Amphibians *Cold-blooded *Lay eggs in or around water *Backbones *Breathe with gills until they develop lungs *Smooth, moist skin *Go through metamorphosis

  35. Metamorphosis Change of form

  36. Life Cycle Stages in the life of a plant or animal

  37. Life cycle of a frog video

  38. Lesson 2.6 Camels Objective: Students will identify features of God’s purposeful design of a camel and match each body part to its function.

  39. Camels “Ships of the Desert”
