Scripture of the Week • Philippians 3:20-21 • 20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

  3. Declaration of Independence • We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. • Inalienable/Unalienable

Inalienable/Unalienable • According to The American Heritage Guide to Contemporary Usage and Style from Houghton Mifflin Company: • The unalienable rights that are mentioned in the Declaration of Independence could just as well have been inalienable, which means the same thing. Inalienable or unalienable refers to that which cannot be given away or taken away.

  8. World promises False Freedom • 2 Peter 2:19They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.”

  9. Freedom not to be used to satisfy the flesh • Galatians 5:13[ Life by the Spirit ] You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Freedom not found in the Law Galatians 3:5 So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard? 6 So also Abraham “believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”[c] 11 Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.”

  14. Are you teaching your family • Unconditional Love • Forgivenesswith repentance • These two concepts lead to a family’s understanding of true freedom

  15. God’s Freedom is not without Discipline • 5And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, • “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline,    and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves,    and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.” • You are sons and daughters of God

  16. God’s Discipline helps you avoid becoming enslaved again • Galatians 5:1[ Freedom in Christ ] It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. • Proverbs 13:24Whoeverspares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. • Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. • Ephesians 6:4Fathers, do not exasperate yourchildren; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

  17. True Freedom • Colossians 2:13bGod made youalive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

  18. True Freedom • 1 John 1:8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
