  2. Psychiatry • Hi my name is Natalie Stevenson and I am pursuing a career in Psychiatry.

  3. Where am I now? • I go to Buford High School. • The classes I have taken or am taking at BHS will help me pursue a Bachelors degree in Psychiatry. • My current GPA is a 3.8

  4. After High School.. • After graduating High School I will attend Georgia State University. • I will pursue a B.S. degree in Psychiatry. • This will take me four years.

  5. After Receiving a B.S. in Psychiatry • I will attend Georgia Regents University to pursue a medical degree in Psychiatry, and complete a residency. • It will take 8 years in total. • I will then pursue a doctorate degree in Psychiatry at Emory University School of Medicine. • It will take 4 years.

  6. Requirements for Psychiatry • Credentials needed: undergraduate education, 4 years of medical school, 4 years of psychiatric residency, state licensing, board certification, Psychiatrists’ earnings. • State licensing: must receive a state license in addition to a federal narcotics license from the Drug Enforcement Administration. They must pass the national United States medical Licensing Examination and fulfill specific licensing requirements of the local state board. • Certification is granted through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

  7. Requirements for Psychiatry • Training: the four year residency must be completed with at least three of these years specifically in the practice of psychiatry. • Active skills, reading comprehension skills, social perceptiveness, good speaking skills, critical thinking, negotiation, complex problem solving, learning strategies, and writing. • It ranges from $160,000 - $230,000. • apply for a job at a hospital or work at a psychiatric clinic.(-Comp health recruiter “Facility in Atlanta area is looking for a locum tenens psychiatrist for 1 day a week” or Academic Forensic and General adult psychiatry in Georgia).

  8. Classes to take • You must have 1 year of inorganic chemistry, 1 year of organic chemistry, 1 year of biology, 1 year of mathematics including calculus, and 1 year of physics in order to apply for medical school • Bachelor of Science in Biology (biology, chemistry, genetics, and physics). • Pass the MCAT Exam • Doctor of Medicine degree (anatomy, histology, immunology, biochemistry, psychology). • Psychiatric Residency • Fellowship training

  9. I will work • I will be able to work at multiple places, like a hospital, clinic, and also have my own private practice as well.
