It is the most practical and effective thing people can do. Yet busy leaders with hectic lives often consider prayer a luxury. Therefore it is often the first thing jettisoned once their calendars reach a saturation point. There are many administrators, but pitifully few intercessors. Joshua was a man of habitual prayer. When Israel suffered a demoralizing defeat against the city of Ai, Joshua’s first response was to humbly seek God’s explanation (Josh. 7:6-9). Joshua carefully processed his failure through prayer. God responded by revealing the reason for their loss and providing the means for victory (Josh. 7:10-15). Prayers need not be eloquently spoken or drawn out to epic length. The most profound prayers are expressed humbly and expectantly. Joshua prayed such prayers and miracles were a regular occurrence in his life.
