  3. Recruitment • Starts by attracting good candidates • IT workers have tremendous flexibility • Job/Organization must be attractive • Good hiring strategies are not IT specific • Structured interview process

  5. What type of IT candidate are you going to hire? • Two schools of thought • IT resources with specific tech skills • General IT resources and training on needed skills • Both approaches are valid

  6. Hiring Strategies • Define the position using a Position Scorecard • Example: • 2 years Delphi experience • Close 10 trackers per month • Write design documents with input from end users • Handle level 2 support • Be able to travel 10% of the time • Have had at least 2 undergraduate accounting courses with a B or higher

  7. Structured Interview • Useful on all types of candidates • Goal is to focus on only the follow questions: • What was the mission? • What were the accomplishments? • What were the failures? • Who were the people?
