Concept-Attainment • Goals of activity: • Derive the “mystery” concept by asking a series of questions (hypotheses) based on your observation skills. • View “examples” and “non-examples” of the concept to help focus your suggestions. • Once the concept has been derived, other examples and non-examples will be shown to reinforce and confirm the concept.

  2. Hypothesis A concise statement that attempts to explaina pattern or predictan outcome. * A hypothesis is not an educated guess since it is based on your observations!

What is the Concept? • Carbohydrates! • Carbohydrates are chemical compounds that act as the primary biological means of storing or consuming energy (1). • Carbohydrates are found in all sorts of foods that we eat everyday including grains (cereal), pasta, breads, and even liquids! • Carbohydrates are used by our bodies for the energy we need to survive.

  21. Homework • Think of at least two original examples and non-examples of carbohydrates that were not used in the presentation. • Answer the following question: • What happens to carbohydrates once they are digested by the body?
