  2. Introduction: • Emily Bronte • Thesis • Emily Bronte has lived a hard life, in her short time living, she has released the most classic of literary works that is still being read, till this present day.

  3. Early Life: • Born on July 30, 1818 • Thorton, West Riding of Yorkshire, England • In 1820 they moved to Haworth, West Riding of York shire, England • Mother died of cancer in 1821 • Emily went to “Clergy daughters school”, encountered abuse. • 2 of her siblings died of Typhoid that was spread in school • Removed from school, and home schooled • Three remaining sisters and a brother • Father was strict • Children remained quiet in a room together, while father worked in his study all day. • They had a wide option of literature, started writing fiction • Inspiration came from brothers toy soldiers, created fantasy worlds such as “Gondal”

Education: • At six years, Emily was sent to “Clergy daughters school” • Was constantly abused and deprived • Typhoid swept the school, Maria and Elizabeth caught it and died. • Remaining siblings where removed and homeschooled by religious aunt • When Emily turned 17, she enrolled in Roe head Girls’ school • Had to leave, became homesick, Anne Bronte came took her place • Attended a girls academy with her sister, run by Constantin Hegerto perfect their French

Career: • Emily and her sisters, want to gain enough education to open their own small school • Worked for 7 months as a teacher in Law Hill School • Then stayed home cooking and cleaning • She studied at a Girls academy with her sister, to perfect their French, to open their own school. • The news of their aunt dying, meant they had to go back to their hometown. • They failed opening the school, since they cannot attract students to their living area. • In 1845, Charlotte Bronte insisted that Emily publish her written poems • In 1846, the Bronte sisters published 3 volumes of their written work, one of them being the famous “Wuthering heights” written by Emily Bronte • Pen name “Ellis Bell”

  6. Personal: • Emily shut herself out of the world • Anti-social • Had no friends, except for family • Interested in free creatures and things

Later Life: • When she became 20, she became a teacher in Law hill school • 7 months later she decided to stop working, and help around the house • 4 years later she attended a girls academy, to improve her French • Emily and her sister where so devoted to learning, that they were asked to stay for another Year and a half • But sadly they had to return to Haworth, because of the death of their aunt, they could not fulfill the dream of opening their own school, since they could not attract any students to Haworth • Emily and her sisters published their work in 3 volumes, in 1846

  8. Conclusion: • Emily Bronte is a brilliant writer, with a traumatic childhood. With fictional poetry and a novel that was based on her true life. You could say that, Emily Bronte would not be the great author she was without having gone through the dreadful events in her childhood. The sudden death of her mother, the abuse she had encountered at her school, and the strictness of her father.
