  5. Twister Fate Tornados can happen at any place at any time given the right conditions. BUT, there is one country that experiences more tornadoes than any other…..

  7. If you were a storm chaser……. • Which three states would you definitely visit during tornado season? Use an online map of your choice to help you.

  8. Why and How? Over to you…… Complete the cartoon story board using the website here and the outline sheet.

  9. Written Task Type “Animated Guide tornadoes” into Google and choose the first result – BBC News. Using your cartoon and the full animation, use Word on your laptop to write an account of how Tornadoes form. Try to include as much geographical vocabulary as possible. Give your work a suitable title and save the file as Introduction to Tornadoes.

Heart racing, to the underground. Gentle breeze, soft and warm, turns violent, cold, funnel form.Electric blue brightens the dark, sounds like the world's being torn apart.Protective walls secure all around, blown to bits, fall to the ground. Chaotic, loud, cover your ears, close your eyes and feel your fears.Eternity, eternity, so long, but so fast, will this day be my last?Then silent, still, is it gone? What if I move, what if I'm wrong? The stench of mud and wet grass, electric sparks and broken glass.It took the trees, it took the homes, it shattered lives and broke some bones.It has no guilt and no remorse, just takes what it wants while on it's course. How can we categorise Tornadoes? • Using the same tornado animated guide on the BBC website – look at slide 9. • What is the name of the scale? • Click on each level of strength to view an animation of damage caused by F1-F5 tornadoes. • Use the internet to research the tornado scale. Create a factsheet to show each level of strength and add a photo to show typical damage.

Extension Task • Type “World tornadoes and agricultural areas” into Google images and copy and paste the first picture. • Underneath, comment on the relationship between location of tornadoes and farming, and therefore populated areas. • Why do people and their lives come into contact with Tornadoes?

People v Twisters • So, we have found out that people and tornadoes live (and die) side by side. • What can people do in the high risk areas to minimise the risk of loss to life and property? • Conduct some research and produce a factsheet to be posted to every resident in Tornado Alley outlining what measures they should put in place to plan and prepare for a Tornado strike. • Google seach term ‘prepare for tornado’
