  1. Few Fabrics Compete With Pure Linen Most people have a favorite fabric when it comes to choosing their clothes, curtains, and bed linens. For some, there simply is nothing better than washed linen bedding, for instance. PURE FLAX LINEN The linen fabric that is used to produce a great variety of curtains, runners, and napkins for your dining room, and the linen bedding you may have in your bedroom, comes from the flax plant which grows in parts of western Europe, particularly in France and Belgium. Linen is made from harvested flax plants. The inner fibers of the flax plant are used to spin the thread that the linen fabric is made of. It is an intricate process that ensures that manufacturers and suppliers are offered a great product with which to work. The inner fibers are separated from the outer fibers (which cannot be used to make the yarn) and then combed so they become even finer strands to be ready to be spun. Thereafter the threads are reeled, and now they are ready to be woven into the fabric we buy, i.e. the linen fabric made from the stalks of the flax plant. WASHED LINEN Of course, you will always wash your linen items at home, also before the first use, although in the case of washed linen, this is hardly necessary. But even before you purchase the linen fabric from which your household items such as bedding and clothing are made, the linen is treated to a process that is referred to as stone washing. It involves a process of pre-washing. During this process the linen is washed by adding stones to the machine, meaning it is washed in big, industrial-type machines. This process enhances that specific look that makes flax linen so attractive, and it helps to soften the fabric before manufacturing or use. In this instance, manmade stones, for example, pumice and volcanic rock, may be used for the best effect. The fabric is therefore repeatedly beaten inside the machine when it comes into contact with the stones during the wash cycle. CARE AT HOME When you buy your pre-washed linen bedding, you have a choice of duvet covers, bedspreads, sheets, and pillows which have been treated to a process that softens the fabric, a process that creates that crumpled look that has made linen so popular all over the world. Now you simply clean these items by washing them in your washing machine and drying them in the sun or a tumble dryer on low or medium heat. WHY ARE LINEN ITEMS PREFERRED ABOVE OTHERS? Linen, as opposed to, say, cotton, offers great strength, durability, and support with only a minimum amount of stretch, if at all. It is known as a breathable fabric, which is ideal for most climates. It is further known to quickly absorb moisture and adapt to sudden temperature changes.

  2. In summer it will keep you cool, and in winter it will retain the warmth. This fabric also retains its shape and look and does not change, even when, after repeated use, it becomes softer to the touch. Many people have to be careful about the fabrics they wear sleep under, or touch, because of allergic reactions. This does not apply to linen as it contains non-allergic agents. These are some of the reasons people like and buy items made of pure flax linen, and why the fabric is gaining ground all over the world. Suppliers and manufacturers import the fabric from Europe and Asia where the flax plant is grown and harvested. Few fabrics compete with washed linen bedding and other items for a range of reasons, as seen above. Once people buy and use linen, they often stick to this strong, popular fabric.
