  1. Wrap Yourself In Great Comfort When You Turn In For The Night Nothing beats a good night’s sleep after a busy day at the office, especially if you wrap yourself in real luxury, in great bed linen such as good sheets, your head on a quality pillow – and wrapped in the duvet of your choice. The terminology may differ from region to region: in Britain, for example, a continental quilt or duvet is the same piece of bed linen that many Australians may refer to as comforters or doonas. No matter what they are called, these pieces of bedding all have the same goal: to keep you warm and comfortable throughout the night. But as we all know it goes beyond staying warm during winter or cool in summer – it is also about the aesthetic value we attach to these comforters, quilts, or duvets. Therefore, we look at the options available to us in terms of price, style, and certainly fabric. Some people are happy to sleep in cotton bed linen, others may prefer silk or a combination of fabrics whereas a growing number of people have found that flax linen is what they prefer. Flax comes from a herbaceous plant that is cultivated in different parts of the world, notably Western Europe in countries such as France and parts of Belgium, for example. From the stem of the flax, plant fibre is harvested and then spun to produce the flax linen fabric. It is interesting to note that flax, even if the use of the plant to create fabric may not be known everywhere apart from Europe and also certain countries in South America, is not a new plant or unknown in societies such as ancient Greece and Egypt, also in Asia as a trade commodity. In ancient times, it is said, flax (from which flax linen is made) may have been the most valuable textile. In modern times flax and the linen made thereof is growing in popularity in many parts of the world, also in Australasia and South Africa for example. Also, watch movies which are produced in Argentina and Brazil, and chances are you will find some actors wearing linen clothing, much like their counterparts in the Mediterranean, for example, France, Italy, and Greece. It is easy on the skin, the fabric is strong and long-lasting, which is even more reason for its popularity as bed linen, right from fitted and flat sheets and pillowcases to duvet and quilt covers, to bed-spreads and curtains. As more and more shoppers and proud homeowners are becoming aware of the fabric, the industry keeps on growing outside of its original geographical regions and now reaches many more millions in regions such as Australia and New Zealand and the surrounding regions. The industry also grows beyond the needs of the family, and hotels and guesthouses are starting to buy linen for the bedrooms, curtains for lounges and foyers – in fact in various spaces where they want to make an impression since linen as a fabric is easily recognisable by its often crumpled, almost informal look. Yet it is soft and pleasant to the touch, especially with time as it becomes even softer after more and more washes. Pure flax linen fabric, incidentally, is machine washable and can be dried quickly too, making it less of an issue than some other fabrics which may require much greater care. Linen is easy to look after and

Having become a popular alternative to many other fabrics, flax linen is certainly making its mark all over the world and is likely to grow further in popularity as more buyers and users get exposed to it.
