  1. Machines and parts do wear when you use them continuously. Cylinder sleeves manufacturers bring various reasons to explain why wear and tear of the machine and parts take place and how can one prevent it. There are some maintenance and routine checks important to ensure that the machines work for more hours. This article explains all the things that you should know. Read it to explore the reasons behind degradation of your machine. There are generally four reasons that cause wear in machines and the components: Friction Abrasion Corrosion Adhesion or scuffing Damage due to friction Whenever two surfaces slide over each other, friction happens that leads to wearing of these surfaces. Liner sleeves surfaces are worn out due to friction between the piston rings and cylinder liner. The frictional wear relies on several factors like movement speed between the surfaces, temperature, pressure, maintenance, material involved, lubrication, and combustion efficiency.

  2. Damage due to corrosion Machines are made of metals and metals do corrode. The wear happens due to corrosion is caused by the burning of heavy fuel oil inside the combustion space. The heavy oil used by the machine has high sulphur content. During combustion process, acids are developed within the space which should be neutralized by cylinder oil as it is alkaline in nature. Corrosion due to sulphur will be high because moisture is present in the fuel, which condensate in the air. The wear happens near the quills and provides a characteristic of the clover leaf shape to the wear pattern. This is known as clover leafing. Damage caused by abrasion When hard particles are present and form during combustion process, abrasion occurs. The ash and the catalytic fines in the fuel formed during the combustion result in abrasion and cause wear. Damage caused by Scuffing or adhesion This is a type of local welding between the piston rings and the liner surface. When the piston moves inside the liner, welding breaks and leads to the formation of abrasive material. What can be done to avoid wearing of liner sleeves? Cylinder can be protected against wear and tear by avoiding any ingress of water within the liner. You can treat the fuel oil and prevent moisture incoming. Maintaining the correct feed rate and cylinder oil grade will also help. For any doubts or assistance, contact cylinder sleeves manufacturers of your town.
