  24. Lab safety rules and symbols are needed so that students do not injure themselves or their classmates. Why is Lab Safety Important?

  33. Ask your teacher where/how to dispose of waste. Never pour anything down the drain unless you are told to do so. Waste Disposal

  34. Hazardous chemicals down the drain can lead to pollution of ground water, lakes, rivers, etc. Plants and animals will die if they are exposed to hazardous chemical waste. Serious health problems will become present in people if hazardous waste finds its way into drinking water. Reasons for proper waste disposal

My personal appearance or dress is such that I can cause injury to myself or other students I am behaving in such a manner that I cause injury to myself or other students I am not following the safety rules I am going beyond the limits of the science activity into areas that may lead to an unsafe situation I have not completed the pre-experiment activities that will allow me to work safely in the laboratory AISD Lab Safety Contract: I understand that I will be removed from the science activity area by the teacher if:

  36. Lab Safety Safety Goggles Why do we wear safety goggles? Preventing Eye Injuries: Wear safety goggles when handling chemicals, glassware, or sharp objects. Do not rub your eyes with your hands until you wash them. Responding to Eye Injuries Inform the teacher immediately Wash eyes for at least 15 minutes using the eye-wash. Go to nurse if eyes become red or itchy.

  39. Lab Safety Fire Blanket How and when do we use a fire blanket? Preventing Fires: Do not light fires near flammable chemicals or material Do not play with matches, lighters, or hot plates. Pull hair back into ponytail Do not wear loose or baggy clothing Responding to Fires: Inform the teacher immediately Use the fire extinguisher to put out fires; do NOT use on humans. Suffocate the fire by covering it with a non-flammable container or use the fire blanket.
