  2. OVERVIEW BPOS Administration functionality is available through PowerShell interfaces (commandlets) • Current functionality includes the ability to create, update, remove users • For customers that have set up Directory Sync, PowerShell can be used to activate these synched users • Over time additional commandlets will be added so that all administration functionality is scriptable System Requirements: • Windows PowerShell version 1.0 or 2.0 • Microsoft Online PowerShell Commandlets

  3. POWERSHELL OVERVIEW Advantages of using PowerShell include: • PowerShell will work with existing IT infrastructure: • PowerShell is installed with Windows 7 • PowerShell can be easily installed on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 • PowerShell is easy to learn • Customers who already manage other Microsoft products such as Exchange are familiar with PowerShell • Allows interaction with other built-in PowerShell features • Piping • Sorting, Filtering • Easy handling of CSV, XML file formats • Since PowerShell commandlets are .NET classes, they can be invoked from any .NET App

  4. FUTURE ENHANCEMENTSOverview In future updates, the following new features will be added to the Microsoft Online PowerShell Interfaces: • Support for Identify Federation • Support for Partners • Domain Management • Security Groups Management • Rich authorization model to allow for more granular control of admin permissions • For Exchange Online customers, a full set of capabilities will be available through a Remote PowerShell interface

  5. FUTURE ENHANCEMENTSIdentity Federation • Customers with Active Directory on-premise will be able to federate their directory with Microsoft Online, which will enable single sign-on to Microsoft Online services using on-premise login information • Credential information will be handled securely, such that credentials are not handled outside of the on-premise Active Directory • PowerShell interfaces will be available to set up identify federation, and migrate any existing users • Authentication to Microsoft Online PowerShell commandlets will itself accept a federated identity

  6. FUTURE ENHANCEMENTSSupport for Partners • Future updates to Microsoft Online PowerShell will allow for partners to act on behalf of customers. This can be used as an alternative to the Microsoft Online Partner Portal • Partners will be able to log in using their own identities, and access any customers that have granted the partner permissions • For partners, each commandlet will have an additional parameter (tenantid) which can be used to control which customer they are acting on behalf of
