MY FAITH COMPOSITION AND COMMUNICATION WRD 110 LINDSEY MARLER PROFESSOR ELISABETH MEYER FEBRUARY 19, 2013
AGNOSTIC • The meaning of Agnostic • The difference between being agnostic and being atheist • How I became agnostic; My Journey • Why Agnostic? • It was not always this way
Christianity was apart of me • Growing up Christian • Integrating into the Pentecostal Church of my Husband • Deciding to raise our children Pentecostal
My Position Shift • The tragedy that brought on my shift • The tsunami, December 26, 2004 • Death toll – 280,000 • 1/3 of that number = children • How did I feel? • How could I feel? • What was I going to do about it
Faith so strong but so weak How could this happen? How could God let this happen? I needed answers
My search begins • I needed to find out the truth • How would this truth impact me? • Where to turn?
Asking questions; Getting answers Asking the church doing my own research • I see atrocity after atrocity • How can such horrible things happen? • What plan could God possibly have? • What role does God play in my life? • What role does he play in my children’s lives • What will my new life be like without God?
What effect will my decisions have on my children? My spouse and I differed in our opinions. What to do?
Resolution and Communication Communication resolution • I spoke to my mother and siblings • My husband and I made a steadfast decision after long hours of conversation • We resolved that we would let our children choose • They will have the power that was not given to us
My life without God • In the end I felt relief • I felt like we will never know but that it was okay • It’s okay to feel alone • There are a lot of people out there like me
