Background • The Cascadia Subduction Zone is a fault that stretches from Vancouver Island to Northern California. • It separates the Juan de Fuca plate and the North American plate. • It is where two plates meet. • Subduction Zone earthquakes are the biggest in the world. • The last Subduction earthquake was on January 1700.

  3. Future Earthquakes • It has been predicted that it will happen every 400 to 600 years. That is about 2100 to 2300. • Huge • Up to 9.0 or greater • Destructive

  4. Hazards • Cause tsunamis • Being subducted at 4 centimeters a year • Severe ground shaking • Multiple landslides • Flooding • Unconsolidated

  5. Preparation • Stock up on food and fresh water • Flashlights • Practice earthquake drills at home • If you are by the beach after it stops shaking get as far away as possible • If a tsunami happens if you have time find a tall building or roof to go on
