ESSENTIAL • Designed to assist students who require additional academic support in specific subject areas to meet diploma requirements • Locally developed courses in Math, English, Science in grade 9 and 10 • Prepare students for workplace level courses in grades 11 and 12 • Student must be on an IEP

APPLIED • Focus is on the essential concepts • Emphasis on the Practical Applications • Relate to familiar real-life situations and • provides students with the opportunity for • “hands-on” application of the concepts they • learn • Prepare students for college and workplace • courses in grade 11 and 12.

ACADEMIC • Cover essential concepts plus additional material • Recommended Level 3 from grade 8 courses • Greater emphasis on THEORY as a basis • for future learning and problem solving • Prepare students for college and university • level courses in grade 11 and 12 • ENRICHED • Some academic courses offer an enrichment • opportunity to enhance learning for interested • and self motivated students.

OPEN • Designed to prepare students for further study in a subject. • Comprise a set of expectations that are appropriate for all students. • Includes courses such as: Healthy Active Living, Religion, Information Technology, Introduction to Business, Integrated Technology, Music, Visual Arts, Dramatic Arts.
